I ordered this light to put on each side of my T.V above my fireplace. We keep the lights on all of the time. It is soft so that it can be a good safe way to go into my den at night. With the Edison bulb it was very pretty too look at but didn't quite give off enough light for what we wanted. With a brighter bulb, it is very difficult to look at. Other than that, it's great. Beaitiful. it looks even better in person. I had my electrician put it on a dimmer. Make sure your electrician is well versed in how to instal because mine did not know it was a easy way to adjust the length.
