The light bulb is so powerful that it melts the wax almost immediately. Very impressive. I did lower the lampshade right over the candle to ensure it maximized the heat if that helps.. This light fixture is beautiful! We are putting our sons nursery together and chose this one for the space. My husband is an electrician and it took him some time to get it all wired together and hung. Just a heads up, you must wire the entire fixture together before wiring it to the ceiling..
